| Comments | Superfluous substitute name for Epithema Brébisson 1838, non Blume 1826. Synonym: Epithemia Kützing. Entry in SVL, "Cystopleura Brébisson et Godey 1838 (ref. 000161)" seems erroneous. This genus appears to have been first presented in Kützing 1849 (ref. 000596), p. 3, where two species, C. alpestris Bréb. and C. ocellata Bréb. were presented in his Epithemia section. Kützing does not, however, accept Cystopleura as a genus, he only cites these 2 species as synonyms of Epithemia alpestris Kütz. and Epithemia ocellata Kütz. for which he provides Latin descriptions. Cystopleura is therefore not validly published by Kützing. In O. Kuntze 1891 (ref. 001330) p. 890-891 there is an entry for Cystopleura: "Cystopleura Breb. nomen inapplicatum apud Kützing (1848) spec. alg. p. 3 sub Epithemia ocellata = Epithema Breb. 1838, (-ia) Ktz. 1845 non Bl. 1826. etc...". |
