| Comments | Type by original designation (also monotypic). The name was first known as Campylodiscus striatus Shadbolt (unpublished manuscript 1849). Greville 1862 (ref. 000411) published a description of Synedra normaniana n. sp. Grev. (p. 231-232) and gave "Campylodiscus striatus Shadbolt, ms" as a synonym. Greville did not accept the genus Campylostylus ("I cannot perceive any good ground for separating it from Synedra") and therefore did not validly published the name. Van Heurck 1896 (ref. 000897), p. 318, accepts this name (as Campylostylus Shad. 1849 ms.) and provides a description of C. striatus. The description "generico-specifica" of C. striatus given by Van Heurck, however, does not validate the generic name because "another name [S. normanniana Gr.] had previously been validly published, based on the same type" (see Art. 42.1.c).
