| Comments | Although listed in SVL catalogue, this genus does not belong to the diatoms, Farr et al. 1979 indicate that the genus belongs to the Dinophyceae. Two species are originally included: D. michaelis and D. acuta, no type is designated. See Ehrenberg 1840 (ref. 000290) where Dinophysis was also introduced as a new genus, p. 44.
