| Comments | Rabenhorst (1859), in Hedwigia 2(3), p. 17, describes Pleurostaurum acutum Rabenh. (as part of caption for plate I, fig. B). There is no indication that this is a new genus, however genus name seems to be validly published. Janish (1959) in Hedwigia 2(5), p. 25 (ref. 002465), gives a description of Pleurostaurum acutum Rabenhorst which is accepted by Farr et al. 1979 as the original reference of the name. Entry in Farr et al. 1979 reads: " Pleurostaurum Rabenhorst ex Janisch 1859, p. 25 (ref. 002465). T: Pleurostaurum acutum (W. Smith) Rabenhorst ex Janish (= Stauroneis acuta W. Smith)".
