| Comments | Two species are included, Actinocyclus senarius and Actinocyclus octonarius and no type is originally designated. See also Ehrenberg 1838 (Infus.), p. 171 (ref. 000288). The generic concept initially included both Actinocyclus and Actinoptychus; according to Villareal & Fryxell 1983 (ref. 005713), however, Ehrenberg 1854 (ref. 000300 & 000966) later clearly separated them and retained Actinocyclus octonarius as the type of the genus. According to Villareal & Fryxell 1983, Ralfs in Pritchard 1861 (ref. 001063) clarified the confusion between Actinocyclus, Actinoptychus and Eupodiscus, establishing the pseudonodulus as the diagnostic character for Actinocyclus. |
