| Comments | Name conserved vs. Scalptrum Corda 1835 (nom. rej. taxonomic synonym) (see ICBN 1956, p. 201, ref. 006916). One species described, G. hippocampus, but Hassall also states: "in the same genus with this species should be placed the Navicula sigma, N. scalprum, and N. curvula of Ehrenberg. ICBN (1994) states that when Gyrosigma is considered a synonym of Pleurosigma, Pleurosigma is conserved against Gyrosigma. |
