| Comments | Name rejected vs. Rhopalodia Müller 1895 (nom. cons., taxonomic synonym) (see ICBN 1988 (ref. 006921), p. 120). In Ehrenberg 1834 (ref. 000284) p. 295, there is mention of the name Pyxidicula as part of a discussion in German about genus Gaillonella in which Ehrenberg explains the need for a new genus name, Pyxidicula, for the species Frustulia operculata; this is accepted as the valid publication of genus name Pyxidicula by the ICBN. The only species originally included is Frustulia operculata Agardh, but the combination Pyxidicula operculata (Agardh) Ehrenberg was not validly published until 1837 (ref. 000285). Description of Pyxidicula in Ehrenberg 1838 (ref. 000288) p. 165, comments p. 166 "Nachtrag zur Gattung Pyxidicula" referring to a 1836 paper (Berich. der Berlin Akad., Wiss. 18. August 1836) and illustration of Pyxidicula operculata pl. 10, fig. 1 (it looks like a Cyclotella). |
