Comments Typified with the type of the subgenus. Described as a subgenus of Actinoptychus by Bale (1913) (ref. 000126, p. 44) with the statement: "I think the characters by which this species is distinguished from all others of the genus are such as to entitle it to at least the rank of a sub-genus, for which I would suggest the name Radiodiscus". One species was included, Actinoptychus hispidus Grunow in Van Heurck (= Radiodiscus hispidus [Gr.] Voigt 1951). Mills (1932) elevated the name to the level of genus and included 2 species Radiodiscus chaffersei Mills n. sp. and Actinoptychus hispidus Grunow. Mills does not designate a type although he states that Bale created a new genus for the species Actinoptychus hispidus. Farr et al. (1979) indicate that the relative dates of Radiodiscus Forti et Schulz 1932 (ref. 001667) and Radiodiscus (Bale) Mills have not been established. Note: SVL erroneously does not list Radiodiscus Forti et Schulz as a separate genus, he lists the species R. cretaceus Forti et Schulz 1932 as part of the genus Radiodiscus Bale.
