| Comments | Nomenclatural synonym of Odontella Agardh 1832. Denticella mentionned p. 210 in section called "Nachtrag zur Gattung Isthmia". Ehrenberg says: "I label Diatoma auritum as Denticella aurita because of its close relationship with Isthmia and its serrated shell...etc." Latin description also given by Ehrenberg. Accepted by Farr et al. 1979 as validly published. |

| Comments | 5 species are included in this genus in Ehrenberg 1838 (ref. 000288), and no type is designated. Ehrenberg 1838 (p. 236) made some comments referring to Greville's work (no date given): "By far, most of the 19 species of the genus Schizonema of Agardh seem to belong to genus Naunema as Greville already mostly placed them (in Naunema)". Meneghini 1845 (ref. 001378) commented about that name, p. 428-429 :.."nor can we adopt the opinion of Ehrenberg who..rejects it (the name Monema) and substitutes in its stead a new name Naunema.." Farr et al. (1979) give entry as above. |
