Comments Type by monotypy. Comments: May not have been validly published in Van Heurck 1883, because not clearly accepted by the original author. It is introduced and illustrated pl. 118 as P. [odosira] (genus novum Microspodiscus Grun.?) oliveriana (O' Meara) Grun. (see ICBN 1994, Art. 34.1). Only one species is presented in Van Heurck 1883 (P. oliveriana). In Van Heurck 1885 (ref. 001040) p. 210 there is a description of genus Micropodiscus Grun. (note the different spelling) and these words: "only one species: M. weissflogii Grun." In Van Heurck 1884 (table alphabétique ref. 001039) p. 59, there is an entry for Micropodiscus ? Oliverianus. It seems that these 2 names represent the same genus. More information may be obtained from "Types du Synopsis" no. 11 & 416 (ref. 000896). See also Grunow 1884 (ref. 000444), p. 79, where the name Micropodiscus is mentioned.

Comments subgroup within genus Triceratium. Name Pseudocoscinodiscus appears twice in Van Heurck 1883: pl. 111, fig. 9 as Triceratium (Pseudocoscinodiscus) labyrinthicum Greville (illustration only, no description) and pl. 112, fig. 3, as Triceratium (Pseudocoscinodiscus ?) pileatum Grunow. There is a description of T. pileatum in the caption fpr fig. 112/3. Spelling : Pseudocoscinodiscus in plate captions of Van Heurck 1883 (#001037), Pseudo-coscinodiscus in Van Heurck 1884 (table alphabetique) p. 84.

Comments Type by monotypy. In Van Heurck, one species illustrated, Stoschia ? paleacea Grun. and the following comments (in French) "The frustules are narrow and have two identical valves. Genus Stoschia, including Stoschia mirabilis are distinguished from Coscinodiscus radiatus by elongated valves slightly cuneiform and will be studied by Mr. Janisch in his work on the diatoms collected during the Gazelle expedition." Only one species was validly published by Grunow in Van Heurck, the other species, S. mirabilis is a nomen nudum. Stoschia admirabilis (a probable synonym of Stoschia mirabilis nom. nud.) was validly published in Schmidt 1889 (ref. 000806), pl. 140, fig. 17. Round, Crawford & Mann (1990), p. 803, incorrectly give Stoschia mirabilis as the type. In the 1888 unpublished manuscript of Janish (ref. 000541) apparently the epithet mirabilis was changed to admirabilis, illustrated pl. 1, fig. 1-5, as Stoschia admirabilis C. Janish ng. et sp.
