Name conserved with a conserved type (see ICBN 1944, p. 120, ref. 006916). Seventeen species of Cymbella are described in Agardh 1830 and no type is designated. Pre-conservation lectotypification with C. cymbiformis (one of them) in Håkansson & Ross 1984 (1984, p. 525, ref. 006914). The choice of Schizonema lacustre Agardh by Boyer (1927) as the type is untenable because it was not one of the original species. |
