Type by original designation (also monotypic). Round, Crawford & Mann (1990) say about the type: "D. geminata Donkin, Nom. superfl. (= D. compressa (T. West) H.L. Smith). Indeed, Donkin indicates on p. 13 that "in the previous number of this journal Mr. West has described and figured (vol. viii, Pl. VII, fig. 11) a form, under the name of Podosira ? compressa, which seems, from his description, to be identical with Druridgia geminata; if so, Mr. West has represented the puncta to be much and more distinct than they ought to be. So much so, that I feel assured that specimens could not be identified by his figure." P. Compère (pers. com., 1998), on the other hand, wrote: "I do not think that these comments by Donkin mean that he definitely included P.? compressa in D. geminata". Our interpretation is to consider D. geminata a legitimate name. |
