| Comments | Subgenus of genus Tropidoneis Cleve 1891. Cleve named and described this new subgenus is the following way: I think it is more natural to group in a same genus the genera Plagiotropis, Amphoropsis, forms of the type of A. maxima that we could call Orthotropis, and forms of the type A. membranacea: Apteroe. In his 1894 Synopsis (000232) however, Cleve considered only 3 groups within the genus Tropidoneis: Orthotropis, Plagiotropis and Amphoropsis; he placed then the species A. membranacea in the group Orthotropis. Type by monotypy. |
