| Comments | Three species are definitely included, C. viridulum Bréb. in litt., C. lacustre Kützing, and C. eximium (added in errata section, p. 891). Kützing here describes and validates Brébisson's unpublished genus. Although three species are included at the time of publication, evidence is given that C. viridulum is the only original species of Brébisson (it is the only one ascribed to Brébisson). Ross in Farr et al. 1979 (p. 402) interpreted this species as being the holotype rather than the logical lectotype. However, since valid publication is of Kützing 1849, the lectotype must be chosen among the species included by Kützing, not by Brébisson, in a previous unpublished manuscript; therefore we interpreted C. viridulum as being the lectotype designated by Ross. |
