| Comments | This name was first published for a subgenus of Achnanthes by Cleve 1895, p. 173 (ref. 000949). Although it was clearly designated as a subgenus (p. 164), it was also designated as a genus (p. 173). No combinations under this name are proposed by Cleve which shows that it intended it as a subgenus. Nineteen species are included in the group by Cleve yet none are indicated as a generitype. Meister 1912 introduces the name as Eucocconeis Cleve, provides a description, and clearly treats it as a genus. Two species are included by Meister: Eucocconeis flexella and Eucocconeis minuta var. alpestris, no type is designated.
