| Comments | In Ehrenberg 1851(1852) (ref. 000962) p. 229 the name Pleurosiphonia is introduced in a table as "Pleurosiphonia _ ? Fr.", no description, no illustration, no species name associated with genus name (nomen nudum). According to Ehrenberg 1871, p. 52 (ref. 000310) the name originated in 1840 and was first printed in Ehrenberg 1853 (ref. 002231) p. 203, in which, according to Mann 1907, p. 368-369 (ref. 000037), it is also a nomen nudum. See comments about Pleurosiphonia in Mann 1907 (ref. 000037), p. 368-369. Apparently the name Pleurosiphonia was first cited in 1853 but remained a nomen nudum until 1871, by then Mastogloia Thwaites 1856, a probable synonym, was published. Several species (7) were included in Ehrenberg 1871, and no type was designated. |
