| Comments | Name validly published for a subgroup of Navicula, not validly published as a genus name. Comments: Name appears as "Kategorie Pseudodiploneis" in a discussion about Nav. musca Greg. (pl. 1, fig. 15). Pseudodiploneis is a subgroup of Navicula including N. musca Greg., N. marginata Lewis, N. reticulata Gr., N. intercedens A.S., N. correpta A.S., N. contracta Grun., and N. formica Grun. No transfer is effected, and the only species illustrated, N. musca, is given as Navicula musca in the captions. See Cleve (1890), p. 14 (ref. 000226), who discusses the "genus" Pseudodiploneis Schmidt (he regards it as a genus), but does not accept it because "composé de formes héterogènes", instead he proposes the genus Dictyoneis for which he gives the following synonyms: "Navicula proparte, Pseudodiploneis Schmidt p.p, Mastogloia p.p". See also Van Heurck 1896 (ref. 000897), p. 157 where is is regarded as a genus, but not accepted, and DeToni 1891 (ref. 000271), p. 194 where it is treated as a section of Dictyoneis. |
