| Comments | Type is type of the subgenus which was indicated (by monotypy) by Meneghini (1845) (ref. 001378). Pleurosira was first introduced as a subgenus of Melosira in Meneghini 1845 (ref. 001378)(p. 96 according to Farr et al. 1979, p. 391 in the English translation at CAS). A Latin description is provided and a single species described: Pleurosira (Melosira) thermalis Meneghini 1845. The subgenus was raised to genus by Trevisan (1848) without any description but with the citation of Meneghini as author of the name (p. 96) and the mention of his 1846 paper (p. 94 footnote), which constitute the indirect reference required by the ICBN for valid publication. No species for this genus are listed in Trevisan 1848. Date of publication of subgenus is 1846 according to Farr et al. |
