Comments Type originally indicated ? Pyrgupyxis eocena Hendey (n. sp. in text, n. sp. n. gen. in fig. caption) is the only species of Pyrgupyxis fully described and illustrated in this paper; Hendey however includes (and transfers to the genus Pyrgupyxis) eight other previously described species and varieties. Although he gives more treatment to P. eocena (which is the only new species), he did not unequivocally designate it as the type. Since the name is post 1958, the status of the name (valid or invalid) depends on whether the genus is considered originally typified or not. The expression "n.sp. n.gen." attached to one species name only, Pyrgupyxis eocena, might be acceptable as a way of indicating the type. If the genus is considered untypified by Hendey 1969, and for this reason invalidly published, then the place of valid publication would be Round, Crawford & Mann (1990), p. 700, where these authors simultaneously validate Pyrgupyxis Hendey and Pyrgupyxis eocena Hendey. The genus name would then be cited Pyrgupyxis Hendey ex Round, Crawford & Mann 1990, and the type species, Pyrgupyxis eocena Hendey ex Round, Crawford & Mann 1990. Although Strelnikova 1982, p. 164 (ref. 006719) indicates that the type is Pyrgupyxis eocena, her article could not validate the generic name because a full and direct reference to the generic description is lacking (see Art. 45.1, 33.2).
