Comments Subgenus of Tropidoneis Cleve 1891. Type not designated. SVL gives the following information: Amphoropsis A. Grunow in Van Heurck 1880 (#000895), pl. 22bis, fig. 9-10. This subgenus is introduced as follows in Van Heurck 1880 (# 000895) in the plate caption for pl. 22bis: Amphora - fig. 9-10. A. (Amphoropsis) recta Grun. (Amphiprora recta Gregory ?). Fig. 11. A. (Amphoropsis) decipiens Grun. (Amphiprora plicata Gregory ?). See Cleve 1891 (000228) p. 53 and Cleve 1894 (000232) p. 22-24. Cleve 1891 modifies the concept of Amphoropsis Grunow, keeping in this genus only the forms of the type A. recta and A. conserta. Furthermore, Cleve 1891 treats this group as a subgenus of genus Tropidoneis Cleve 1891. See Van Heurck 1896 (# 000897) p. 261 :Prof. Pfitzer, in 1871, re-arranged the species (of Amphiprora) which authors had up to that time described, an divided them into his Amphitropis and Plagiotropis. Prf. Cleve has lately re-constructed the genus in Le Diatomiste (1891), by subdividing the forms into a number of very characteristic groups. Van Heurck 1896 p. 261 presents, describes (and accepts) Amphoropsis as a subgenus of Amphiprora. I(EF) thinks that the correct reference for Amphoropsis should be Amphoropsis Grunow ex Cleve 1891 p. 52-53 (#000228), subgenus of Tropidoneis Cleve 1891. The name was not validly published by Grunow in Van Heurck 1880 pl. 22B, fig. 9-11 (#000895) because lacking a description while illustrating 2 species. Cleve 1891 validated it by providing a description. No type designated by Cleve. ING gives Amphoropsis Spegazzini 1918 (Fungi).
