| Comments | Type by monotypy. The genus name is validly published in Ehrenberg 1840 p. 205 (ref. 000293) where it is introduced as Amphipentas ? pentacrinus Nov. gen., followed by a Latin description. The name appears in Ehrenberg 1840 (ref. 000290), p. 43, with no species included (this article is considered to be the original publication of Amphipentas by the current Internet version of the ING; if ref. 000290 was published prior to ref. 000293, which is difficult to verify, it would then constitute original publication of the genus name). The name Amphipentas is also mentioned in Ehrenberg 1841, p. 123 (ref. 000953). This genus is also described as new in Ehrenberg 1843 (ref. 000294) p. 401, and the species A. alternans is described p. 410 and illustated pl. II/VI fig. 9. |
