| Comments | Name conserved against Sphictocystis Hassall, nom. rej., Taxonomic synonym (or is it a nomenclatural synonym ?) (see ICBN 1956, p. 200, ref. 006916). Three species are presented in Smith's paper: Cymatopleura solea, C. elliptica, C. hibernica, and no type is designated. Pre-conservation lectotypification with C. solea in Boyer 1927, p. 532 (ref. 000946). W. Smith, p. 12 gives as synonyms of Cymatopleura solea Smith, Navicula librilis Ehr., Surirella solea (Kütz. 1844, p. 60, ref. 000595), Sphinctocystis librilis (Hassal 1845, p. 436, ref. 000469). Cymatopleura W. Sm. is also described in W. Smith 1853 (ref. 000863), p. 36, and in W. Smith 1852 (ref. 000862). |
