Comments Later homonym of Brunia Linnaeus 1753, and Brunia Lamarck 1785 (nom. cons.). Synonym (substitute name): Neobrunia O. Kuntze, 1894 (ref. 002494). Tempère in Brun et al. 1890 (ref. 000883) p. 21 first introduced the genus name Brunia, 2 species were included, Brunia japonica n. gen. n. sp. with a long description in French and an illustration, and Brunia mirabilis with a short diagnosis. The genus was not validly published then because it is was lacking a generic description while including more than one species (see ICBN-1994, Art. 41-42). The genus became validly published in De Toni (1894) (ref. 000951), where a generic description was provided; no type was designated by De Toni.
