Comments Type by monotypy. Peragallo says (in French): "I hesitate to establish this new genus after observing only one frustule. I think it might rather be an abnormal form of Cymbella maculata which is commonly found in the travertine and often with abnormalities more or less obvious." This statement indicates that Peragallo hesitates to accept this genus. Sigma M. Peragallo is clearly designated as "nov. gen. nov. sp.", although it is accepted with hesitation by its author, it is validly published (see Art. 34.1, last sentence).
