Comments Type by monotypy. Comments: The name was listed as nom. rej. vs. Gomphonema in the Paris Code (ICBN 1956, p. 200, ref. 006916) because at that time Gomphonema was conserved as of Hustedt 1930. It became a possible later taxonomic synonym (and was no longer rejected) when the place of publication of the conserved name was taken back to Ehrenberg 1832 (see ICBN 1961, ref. 006910). Originally monotypic. S. catena is described p. 422 (114 in other edition).
