| Comments | Clearly not intended by H.L. Smith as the name of a new taxon. As "Amphora coffeaformis K[ützing]" in slide label and printed schedule of taxa names. H.L. Smith also cites in the printed schedule of notes "K.B. v, 37, 38" (i.e. Kützing 1844, ref. 000595). Non (Agardh) Kützing 1844 according to Cleve 1895, p. 119 (ref. 000949) who expressed the opinion that the specimens examined by H.L. Smith belonged to Amphora veneta Kützing 1844. Cleve's opinion resulted in the "sensu H.L. Smith" entry in VanLandingham's catalogue. |
