Geographical distribution of Podallea madegassica.

Diagnosis

This species is known only from the female.  Females can be separated from other Malagasy species by the following characteristics:  wing veins with few dark scales; lateral margin of pronotum with dark scales; ninth tergite ventrally not elongated and bluntly pointed.

CAS, San Francisco.

Type Locality

MADAGASCAR: Mahajanga Province, Ankarafantsika Forest Reserve, near Marovoay, 1 December 1959, E.S. Ross, 1 female.

Geographical Distribution

In addition to the site near Marovoay, this species has been collected on Nosy-Be Island.

Temporal Distribution

November and December.

Elevation

Apparently at rather low elevation.

Remarks

There are good illustrations of the female genitalia in Aspöck and Aspöck, 1996.
