Diagnosis

Males of this species can be identified by the lack of tufts of setae on the pronotum, while females have the following characteristics:

of Berotha squamulata is: ETHIOPIA: Bourié, margin of the Omo River, 600 m,  1932-1933, C. Arambourg, P.A. Chappuis, and R. Jeannel, 1 male.

of Acroberotha xiphophora is: SOUTH AFRICA: Transvaal, Letaba in Krüger National Park, 1 female.

of Acroberotha tricirrata is: ZIMBABWE: Victoria Falls, September 1957, R.B. Stuckenberg, 1 female.

Geographical Distribution

This is the most common and widely distributed species of Podallea and is found throughout most of tropical Africa.  Within Madagascar it has been collected primarily in the southern part of the country.

Unknown.

Remarks

There have recently been many collections of Podallea made from all over the country, and this species will probably be found to be much more widely distributed in Madagascar than previously indicated.
