Known geographical distribution of Italochrysa madagassa.

Diagnosis

This species has small pigment spots at the end of anal veins, at CuP-1A crossvein, and at the base of the intramedian cell.  the antennae are shiny black.  However, the most distinctive feature is that when alive, individuals of this species have bright red abdomens (personal communication, Keve Ribardo).

Type Locality

MADAGASCAR: Fianarantsoa Province, 7 km W of Ranomafana, 1100 m, 8-21 October 1988, W.E. Steiner, 1 female (at light).

Geographical Distribution

At this time, this species is only known from Ranomafana National Park.

Elevation

900 to 1100 m.

Remarks

Although species of Belonopterygini are normally found in drier habitats, this species is found in the relatively moist eastern forest.  However, adults only seem to be present during the height of the dry season at the park.
