Diagnosis

This species looks like a small, dark hemerobiid.  However, it has only a single radial sector (Rs) in the forewing and the individual wing cells are darker in the center than at the margins.

Type Locality

MADAGASCAR: Imanombo, 1901, Ch. Alluaud, unknown number of specimens in series.

Geographical Distribution

This species is endemic to Madagascar.  At this time, it has been collected in the far southeastern part of the country, along the west coast, and near Mahajanga in the northwest part of the country.

Remarks

Spongilla-fly larvae are predators of freshwater sponges, and as just are secondary indicators of water quality. 

This is the only species of spongilla-fly known from Madagascar.
