Syntypes: BMNH 1895.5.27.160-165 [from Jordan] (6), CAS-SU 2685 (26), USNM 47440 (3), ZMB 14066 [ex CAS-SU 2876] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:67 [ref. 12291], Paepke & Seegers 1986:177 [ref. 19981]. Original says, "Type, No. 2686 L.S. Jr. Univ. Mus.", but that lot contains many specimens. •Valid as Atherinella crystallina (Jordan & Culver 1895) -- (Chernoff 1986:160 [ref. 5848], Chernoff 1986:242 [ref. 5847] with subspecies, Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:57 [ref. 22290], Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:193 [ref. 24550], Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:516 [ref. 27061], Nelson et al. 2004:97 [ref. 27807], Miller 2006:189 [ref. 28615], Scharpf 2007:6 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:99 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:138 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Atherinella crystallina (Jordan & Culver 1895). Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Southern North America: Pacific slope of Mexico. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
