Holotype: CAS 27631. Paratypes: LACM 33538-1 (1), 36965-1 (1). •Valid as Sebastes melanosema Lea & Fitch 1979 -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:143 [ref. 9277], Orr et al. 2000:19 [ref. 24942], Shytko 2001:48 [ref. 26410], Love et al. 2002:207 [ref. 26216], Nelson et al. 2004:115 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:77 [ref. 37547], Butler et al. 2012:40 [ref. 40735], Page et al. 2013:118 [ref. 32708], Kells et al. 2016:140 [ref. 35888], Love et al. 2021:109 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Sebastes melanosema Lea & Fitch 1979. Sebastidae: Sebastinae. Distribution: Northeastern Pacific: central Oregon (U.S.A.) south to Pacific coast of central Baja California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
