Lectotype: CAS 44286 [ex IU 17291]. Paralectotypes: CAS 236011 [ex IU 17291] (8). Additional non-type material: CAS 46027 [ex IU 17290] (9), 46028 [ex IU 17293] (1), 46029 [ex IU 17292] (5), 78813 [ex IU 17289] (23). Lectotype selected by Vanegas-Ríos 2016:45 [ref. 34359]. •Valid as Gephyrocharax major Myers 1929 -- (Weitzman in Reis et al. 2003:224 [ref. 27061], Vanegas-Ríos & Phillip 2013:1333 [ref. 34415], Barriga Salazar 2014:109 [ref. 35745] as Gephyocharax, Sarmiento et al. 2014:184 [ref. 35004], Thomaz et al. 2015: Add. 5 [ref. 33893], Vanegas-Ríos 2016:38 [ref. 34359], Vanegas-Ríos 2017:6 [ref. 35531], Ferreira et al. 2018:170 [ref. 35911], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:18 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Gephyrocharax major Myers 1929. Characidae: Stevardiinae. Distribution: South America: Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. Habitat: freshwater.
