See Caires & Figueiredo 2011:49 [ref. 31523] for remarks on the type locality. •Valid as Microphilypnus macrostoma Myers 1927 -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:662 [ref. 27061], Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:97 [ref. 27192], Thacker et al. 2006:491 [ref. 28798] but species status doubtful, Caires & Figueiredo 2011:41 [ref. 31523], Van Tassell 2011:148 [ref. 31732], Caires 2013:155 [ref. 33010], DoNascimiento 2016:536 [ref. 34727], Caires & Toledo-Piza 2018:54 [ref. 35793], Parenti 2021:50 [ref. 38603] as macrostomus). Current status: Valid as Microphilypnus macrostoma Myers 1927. Eleotridae: Eleotrinae. Distribution: South America: Orinoco, Negro and lower Amazon basin (Brazil and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
