Holotype (unique): CAS 34408. •Valid as Apogon bryx Fraser 1998 -- (Gon & Randall 2003:7 [ref. 26750], Fraser 2005:23 [ref. 28138], Allen et al. 2006:1084 [ref. 29004], Golani & Bogorodsky 2010:68 [ref. 35264]). •Valid as Ostorhinchus bryx (Fraser 1998) -- (Allen & Erdmann 2012:388 [ref. 31980], Mabuchi et al. 2014:199 [ref. 33426], Golani & Fricke 2018:76 [ref. 36273], Kuiter & Kozawa 2019:95 [ref. 36965], Psomadakis et al. 2020:407 [ref. 37272], Fraser et al. 2022:196 [ref. 39752]). Current status: Valid as Ostorhinchus bryx (Fraser 1998). Apogonidae: Apogoninae. Distribution: Red Sea; Indo-West Pacific: East Africa (Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Somalia) east to Philippines, north to Taiwan. Habitat: marine.
