Syntypes: CAS-SU 2318 (2); USNM 36735 (6), 36687 (2). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:74 [ref. 12291], Collette & Knapp 1967:42 [ref. 20211]. The original spelling of the species whipplii is an acceptable spelling, but based on Art. 33.2.3.1 of the Code, the spelling whipplei can be retained. •Synonym of Etheostoma whipplei (Girard 1859) -- (Page 1983:121 [ref. 22189]). Current status: Synonym of Etheostoma whipplei (Girard 1859). Percidae: Etheostomatinae. Habitat: freshwater.
