Lectotype: USNM 48265 (237 mm, 1 of 2). Paralectotypes: CAS-SU 7 (2); USNM 48265 (2), 125002 [ex USBF 445] (1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:102 [ref. 12291]. Lectotype in Schwarzhans & Møller 2021:71 [ref. 38607]. •Synonym of Porogadus catena (Goode & Bean 1885) -- (Nielsen & Cohen in Nielsen et al. 1999:86 [ref. 24448]). •Valid as Porogadus promelas Gilbert 1892 -- (Schwarzhans & Møller 2021:71 [ref. 38607], Love et al. 2021:83 [ref. 39279], Page et al. 2023:110 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Porogadus promelas Gilbert 1892. Ophidiidae: Neobythitinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: British Columbia (Canada) south to Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
