Mentioned in the account of Esox argenteus; apparently validated back to this account by Gray 1842:73 [ref. 18157] who treated the species as valid; available as Esox alepidotus Forster 1801. Based on description in manuscript by Forster (Johann Reinhold Forster, 1729-1798, German explorer and naturalist of Cook's second voyage). Specimen designated lectotype by Kottelat 2013:36 [ref. 32989]. •Synonym of Galaxias argenteus (Gmelin 1789) -- (McDowall 1970:352 [ref. 22863]). Current status: Synonym of Galaxias argenteus (Gmelin 1789). Galaxiidae: Galaxiinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
