Lectotype selected by Weed 1933:61 [ref. 6557]. •Synonym of Hyporhamphus roberti (Valenciennes 1847), but a valid subspecies hildebrandi Jordan & Evermann 1927 -- (Collette et al. 1992:9 [ref. 19410], Greenfield & Thomerson 1997:91 [ref. 22947], Collette 2003:1143 [ref. 26981], Collette 2004:11 [ref. 27583], Smith et al. 2003:15 [ref. 27621] with date for subspecies as 1929, Matamoros et al. 2009:16 [ref. 31241], Collette & Bemis 2019:122 [ref. 37342]). •Valid as Hypohamphus hildebrandi Jordan & Evermann 1927. Current status: Valid as Hyporhamphus hildebrandi Jordan & Evermann 1927. Hemiramphidae. Distribution: Western Atlantic: western Caribbean Sea (Colombia north to Quintana Roo, Mexico). Habitat: brackish, marine.
