D.] 1968:334, Fig. 1 [Copeia 1968 (no. 2); ref. 7934] Spring, 5.7 miles west of Oxford about 500 yards north of U.S. highway 78, tributary of Coosa River, Calhoun County, Alabama, U.S.A. Holotype: UMMZ 187462. Paratypes: ALA 2031 (12), 1138 (39), 1665 (68); CUMB 52064 [ex ALA 1063] (26); TU 34396 (47); UMMZ 187463 (25); USNM 201404 [ex ALA 1063] (26). Type catalog: Suttkus 1970:128 [ref. 20861], Bart & Taylor 1993:67 [ref. 20906]. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Cottus quadricornis pygmaeus Lönnberg 1932; replaced by Cottus paulus Williams 2000. •Treated as valid as Cottus pygmaeus Williams 1968 -- (Lee et al. 1980:821 [ref. 22416], Page & Burr 1991:252 [ref. 18983], Boschung 1992:102 [ref. 23239], Mettee et al. 1996:495 [ref. 25836]). 1°Homonym. Current status: Synonym of Cottus paulus Williams 2000. Cottidae. Habitat: freshwater.
