mesotrema, Asternotremia Jordan [D. S.] 1877:52, Pl. 45 (fig. 74) [Bulletin of the United States National Museum [v. 1] No. 10; ref. 2374] Sandy Mount Creek at GA-90 overpass, 2.7 miles NW of Vienna, tributary of the Flint River, Dooly County, Georgia, U.S.A. [Flint River, Georgia, U.S.A.] Neotype: JFBM 50011. ?? Paratypes: USNM (2) Little Red R., Arkansas. The illustration on Pl. 45 (fig. 74) was drawn from a paratype. Name appeared first as a nomen nudum in Jordan 1877:368 [ref. 2373]. Subspecies intergrade. Holotype once USNM 9296 (poor condition) now lost. Neotype designated by Muller & Simons 2024:91 [ref. 40853]. •Synonym of Aphredoderus sayanus (Gilliams 1824) as a subspecies intergrade -- (Poly 2004:2, 3 [ref. 27585]). •Valid as Aphredoderus mesotrema (Jordan 1877) -- (Muller & Simons 2024:89 [ref. 40853]). Current status: Synonym of Aphredoderus sayanus (Gilliams 1824). Aphredoderidae. Distribution: North America: Flint and Chattahoochee River below fall lines, and coastal drainages in the Eastern Gulf of Mexico from the Escambia River in Western Florida to the Ochlockonee River near peninsular Florida, U.S.A. Habitat: freshwater.
