magdalenae, Sciaena Steindachner [F.] 1878:89 [Anzeiger der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Wien, Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 15 (no. 12) (for 9 May 1878); ref. 20476] Río Magdalena, Colombia. Syntypes: (several) NMW (apparently not found). Originally described as above, species later illustrated and described as "Sciaena Magdalenae n. sp. (an Sc. surinamensis Blkr. adult?)" in more detail in Steindachner 1879:22 [p. 6 of separate], Pl. 1 (fig. 3) [ref. 4227]. •Synonym of Plagioscion monacantha (Cope 1867) -- (Chao 1978:44 [ref. 6983]). •Synonym of as Plagioscion surinamensis (Bleeker 1873) -- (Casatti in Reis et al. 2003:601 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Plagioscion magdalenae (Steindachner 1878) -- (Casatti 2005:53 [ref. 28401], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:103 [ref. 35633], Parenti 2020:43 [ref. 37439], Rojas-Luna & García-Alzate 2023:6 [ref. 40444]). Current status: Valid as Plagioscion magdalenae (Steindachner 1878). Sciaenidae. Distribution: South America: Colombia and Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
