guttatus, Platycephalus Cuvier [G.] (ex Langsdorff) in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1829:244 [Histoire naturelle des poissons v. 4; ref. 998] Japan. Holotype (unique): ZMB 726 (dry). Type catalog: Blanc & Hureau 1968:60 [ref. 20738], Paepke & Fricke 1992:278 [ref. 19946] with ZMB 726 (dried) as holotype; description indicates that the holotype was tranferred from the Berlin Museum to the "Cabinet du Roi" but there is no type at MNHN. Based on a description in manuscript by Langsdorff, and an underlying specimen in ZMB (the holotype). •Valid as Inegocia guttata (Cuvier 1829) -- (Ochiai in Masuda et al. 1984:322 [ref. 6441], Shao & Chen 1987:88 [ref. 8042], Lindberg & Krasyukova 1987:153 [ref. 15964], Imamura 1996:207 [ref. 22700], Lee & Joo 1998:222 [ref. 25739], Nakabo 2000:617 [ref. 25086], Shimizu 2001:27 [ref. 25799], Nakabo 2002:617 [ref. 26001], Choi et al. 2003:257, 569 [ref. 26218], Imamura et al. 2006:295 [ref. 28670]). •Synonym of Cociella crocodilus (Cuvier 1829), material previously assigned to guttatus belongs to an undescribed species -- (Imamura & Yoshino 2009:310 [ref. 30527] as crocodila, Imamura 2010:26 [ref. 30804] as crocodila, Imamura & Aungtonya 2020:28 [ref. 38146] as crocodila). Current status: Synonym of Cociella crocodilus (Cuvier 1829). Platycephalidae. Habitat: marine.
