vulgaris, Auxis Cuvier [G.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1832:139, Pl. 216 [Histoire naturelle des poissons; ref. 1000] Nice, France, northwestern Mediterranean Sea. Lectotype: MNHN A-5808. Paralectotypes: MNHN A-5815 (1) Morée, A-5792 (1) Martinique. Type catalog: Bauchot & Blanc 1961:375 [ref. 20733], Blanc & Bauchot 1964:453 [ref. 20804], Collette 1966:371 [ref. 14641]. Lectotype selected by Collette & Aadland 1996:437 [ref. 22199]. Record of Auxides vulgaris Cuvier 1833 in Eschmeyer 1998:1777 [ref. 23416] was an error for this species. The specimen, MNHN A-5808, is the holotype of Scomber rochei Risso 1810. •Synonym of Auxis rochei (Risso 1810) -- (Postel 1973:470 [ref. 7208], Collette & Nauen 1983:29 [ref. 5375], Collette 1990:979 [ref. 19476], Collette & Aadland 1996:436 [ref. 22199]). •Synonym of Auxis rochei (Risso 1810), subspecies rochei -- (Collette 2003:3 [ref. 27312], Randall 2007:447 [ref. 30952]). Current status: Synonym of Auxis rochei (Risso 1810). Scombridae: Scombrinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
