Tetrapturus Cuvier [G.] in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1832:286 Masc. In the 1990 edition of the "Genera" we had type as indicus by monotypy, but that is incorrect, since Rafinesque's belone also was included; this record should be cancelled as it was not intended as an original genus description separate from Rafinesque 1810.
