First in Jordan 1878 with type in footnote Catostomus fecundus, then in Jordan 1878:219 [ref. 12254] where he recognized that the type was based on a misidentified type species which he renamed C. liorus (see Miller & Smith 1981:5 [ref. 5465]). •Valid as Chasmistes Jordan 1878 -- (Miller & Smith 1981 [ref. 5465], Gilbert 1998:20 [ref. 23395], Scharpf 2006:8 [ref. 30386]). •Synonym of Catastomus Lesueur 1817 -- (Chen & Mayden 2012:195 [ref. 32391]).
