Sebastapistes Gill [T. N.] in Streets 1877:62 Masc. Scorpaena strongia Cuvier 1829. Type by subsequent designation. Three included species, earliest type designation found is Jordan & Evermann 1898:1839 [ref. 2444]. •Synonym of Scorpaena Linnaeus 1758 but a valid subgenus Sebastapistes -- (Mandrytsa 2001:250 [ref. 25636]). •Valid as Sebastapistes Gill 1877 -- (Fröiland 1972:358 [ref. 30490], Blanc & Hureau 1973:585 [ref. 7218], Eschmeyer 1986:475 [ref. 5652], Poss 1999:2304 [ref. 24796], Randall & Poss 2002:61 [ref. 25855], Zajonz & Klausewitz 2002:1485 [ref. 26817], Allen et al. 2006:891 [ref. 29066], Motomura 2009:64 [ref. 30037], Motomura & Senou 2009:1 [ref. 30176], Hubert et al. 2012:5 [ref. 31846], Motomura et al. 2014:133 [ref. 33591], Fricke et al. 2018:136 [ref. 35805], Golani & Fricke 2018:56 [ref. 36273], Fricke et al. 2019:103 [ref. 36673]).
