Pteronotropis (subgenus of Erogala) Fowler [H. W.] 1935:15 Masc. Alburnus formosus Putnam 1863. Type by original designation (also monotypic). Type species preoccupied in Notropis by Moniana formosa Girard 1856; same as Leuciscus hypselopterus Günther 1868. •Synonym of Notropis Rafinesque 1818, but a valid subgenus Pteronotropis as described -- (Gilbert 1978:16 [ref. 7042], Suttkus & Mettee 2001:6 [ref. 25253]). •Valid as Pteronotropis Fowler 1935 -- (Mayden 1989:30 [ref. 12555], Gilbert 1998:19 [ref. 23395], Simons et al. 2000:1068 [ref. 25101], Mayden et al. 2007:81 [ref. 36566], Mayden & Allen 2015:[1] [ref. 34137], Stout et al. 2022:9 [ref. 39738]). Current status: Valid as Pteronotropis Fowler 1935. Leuciscidae: Pogonichthyinae.
