Aracana (subgenus of Ostracion) Gray [J. E.] 1838:110 Fem. Ostracion auritus Shaw 1798. Type by monotypy. "Valid" but dates to Gray 1833 [ref. 1878] as Acarana. In 1838 there were 5 included species; type designated by Bleeker 1866:15 [ref. 417] if needed. Above spelling is apparently an incorrect subsequent spelling of Acarana Gray 1833 and not a new genus name but it is in current usage.
