Linnaeus and Gmelin are cited, both use Cyprinus gonorynchus, referring to Gronovius' Gonorynchus; conorynchus regarded as an incorrect subsequent spelling. •In the synonymy of Gonorynchus gonorynchus (Linnaeus 1766) -- (Grande 1999:456 [ref. 23803]). The correct spelling of the genus is Gonorynchus, the species is gonorynchus and the family is Gonorynchidae.
